W. Charles Thompson Museum School
The W. Charles Thompson Museum School at the Attleboro Arts Museum offers a wide variety of two and three-dimensional art classes for adults, teens and children. A dedicated staff of teachers offers a supportive environment and encourages creative risk taking. Workshops and master classes are also offered for professional artists and art educators in the region.
Drop-in Life Drawing Studio

All levels welcome to join this open studio setting.
Limited to artists 18 years or older. No exceptions.

2010 Spring Art Class Schedule
Children’s Classes: Sat., April 10 – May 15, 2010
Costs: (6 weeks): $85 member, $95 non-member; $10 materials.
AGES 5-8*
Sketchn’ Kids: Back to Basics, 9-10:30am. Back by popular demand! Discover your own creativity while drawing in both color and black & white.
NEW! Artful Painting, 9-10:30am. Students will investigate basic painting techniques. Explore color, value, how to make a brushstroke and even learn about some classic artists.
AGES 9-14
NEW! Drawing Dynamics: Foundation Drawing Revisited, 10:45-12:15pm. Explore drawing elements such as line, gesture, value and perspective. Students will work from life and from their imaginations.
NEW! Paint Box: Color Exploration, 10:45-12:15pm. Students learn professional techniques and the expressive qualities of painting. Attention given to composition, value, volume, color theory and painterly processes.
NEW! Children’s Workshop: for ages 5 and up.
(Adult children’s book authors and illustrators and have asked if they can enroll in this class – YES, of course)
NEW! Winston the Water Dog’s Woffin’ Workshop. Saturday, May 1st from 1-3 pm. With special appearance by Elvis the Portuguese Water Dog! (He is hypoallergenic) Winson the Water Dog author, Mary Korr and illustrator, Cathren Housley, will lead participating students through the basics of designing their very own children’s books. Costs: $20 member; $25 non-member (materials included)
Youth/Teen Workshops (ages 10-17)
NEW! Animation in Action w/ Illustrator Adam Cristaldi. 4 weeks: Sat, Apr 17 – May 8, 1-3pm.
Experiment with movement, characters, emotion and story. Examples will be shown and demonstrated. Students will come away with the beginnings of their own characters and short cartoon. No prerequisites. All returning students are welcome to explore new animation challenges. Costs: $80 member, $90 non-mem; $15 materials.
NEW! Passion for Fashions w/ Designers Mikala Cash & Michael Wherley. (Two-days) Tues, May 11th & Thurs, May 13th from 6:00-8:00 pm. An exciting two-day workshop covering high fashion styles, trends and design elements. Students will explore fashion sketching, illustration and fabric & color choices will Michael, as well as learn different hand-sewing techniques to create top of the line belts and head wraps with Mikala. No previous drawing/sewing experience necessary. Costs: $56 member, $68 non-member (materials included).
Children & Teen Ceramics: Sat, Apr. 10 – May 15, 2010

Adult Workshops
NEW IN APRIL! The Painted Still-life w/ Jill Pottle
One-day workshop, Saturday, April 10th from 10– 4 pm. Have you every wondered how to paint reflections and glass? This is a workshop for the experienced painter to learn how to describe the beautiful details of metallic and glass surfaces through the exploration of paint application, mixing and the use of a limited palette. Costs: $55 member, $65 non-member (students must provide their own materials)
NEW IN APRIL! Color & Design: Elements to Beautify Your Home w/ Selena Nieto
One-day workshop, Sat., April 17th from 2 – 4pm. Do you want to redesign or remodel a room, but you just don’t know where to start? In this workshop, learn how to use color and design to create a flowing floor-plan throughout your home. Whether you want to redo an entire room or just freshen up a room with a new paint color, this workshop will get you decorating with know-how and style. Costs: $25 mem $35 non-mem $10 materials
NEW IN APRIL & MAY! Faux Tapestries w/Anne Bridge.
Sat, April 24 – May 15 from 1-4pm. Fe, Fi, Faux Fun! All levels welcome – Anyone can create a beautiful faux wall hanging. Experiment in 3D painting techniques and take home a completed piece of art. Costs: $80 member, $90 non-member $15 materials fee

There are no refunds once payment is issued to the Attleboro Arts Museum (this includes missed or sick days). There is a minimum enrollment for classes to run. If a class has met the minimum enrollment and still has space available, you can register right up until the class starts. However, the class will be cancelled if less than the minimum number of students have registered by 3 days prior to the start date.
