Elena Calderón-Patiño, Community Arts Program Director of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA), curates this group show featuring a variety of media from over 45 New England artists.

Attleboro Arts Museum Annual Poetry Slam

Saturday, March 6, 2010; 2 – 5 pm. Free and open to the public. 

The Boston Poetry Slam and the Attleboro Arts Museum present the fifth annual Attleboro Arts Museum Poetry Slam. Poets, listeners, and art enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend this high-energy literary event.

“Poetry Slam” is most easily defined as the art of competitive poetry. Poets nineteen years of age and under are invited to compete in a “youth” competition. Hosted by Boston SlamMaster Simone Beaubien, the slam is likely to include young poets from Attleboro or even a few out-of-towners from the Providence Poetry Slam or Worcester Youth Slam poetry scenes.

An adult poetry slam, open to all, will close the afternoon. It will include National Poetry Slam competitors from the Boston, Providence, Worcester, and other slam scenes. 2010 featured poets are Megan Thoma and Mike McGee.  All members of the public are invited to attend to listen, compete, or judge as one of the Museum’s most dynamic programs celebrates its fifth year of poetic fun.

“Picturing Connections”: Spotlight Exhibit at the Attleboro Arts Museum

Saturday, March 13th; 2-4 pm.  Museum’s Ottmar Gallery.  Free and open to the public.

“Picturing Connections”, a visual arts education workshop series at the Attleboro Arts Museum, featured hands-on classes with artist-in-residence, Cristina Hajosy, and culminates with spotlight exhibitions in the Museum’s Ottmar Gallery and Attleboro City Hall.  This series was funded by VSA arts of Massachusetts and served adult students with developmental disabilities from the Arc of Northern Bristol County. “Picturing Connections” encouraged participants to visualize and appreciate their surroundings for the larger possibilities, while empowering them through art to become involved in community betterment and support.

Attleboro Arts Museum 2010 Flower Show

 March 25 – 28, 2010. Theme: Dusk to Dawn, Gardens That Light Up The Night

With a theme guaranteed to astonish you, this year’s 14th annual flower show, “Dusk to Dawn: Gardens that Light Up the Night” promises magic and mystery, night owls and morning doves, glittering stars and smiling sunflowers.  Inspired by selected works of art, exhibitors, designers, garden clubs and artists will transform our galleries into mood pieces reflective of dusky sunsets or the breathless flush of daybreak.  As always, a stunning art exhibit, freshly stocked gift gallery, wonderful raffles and food by Raymond Norman Cooks will add to the ambience.

Show hours are Thurs through Saturday, 9:30-4:30; Sunday 12:00-4:00. Admission is just $3 each day, with children under 9 free!

Art Exhibition Theme: Light and Dark – A Celebration of Contrast

The Attleboro Arts Museum invites all artists to submit original work in all mediums for the Museum’s 2010 Flower Show and Juried Art Exhibition. This year’s art exhibition entitled Light and Dark: A Celebration of Contrast may include any artistic interpretation of the natural world and/or art that employs the use of light and dark in any manner. Fiery sunsets, richly evocative deep night, brilliant daybreaks, moon and stars, creatures of the night, night blooming flowers, dreams … all interpretations are welcome.

Contemporary Mosaics: A Cutting Edge Invitational Exhibition

April 16 – May 15, 2010; Opening reception: Saturday, April 17th, 2 – 4pm.  Free and open to the public.

This spring the Attleboro Arts Museum presents Contemporary Mosaics – A Cutting Edge Invitational Exhibition to its Ottmar Gallery. Contemporary mosaic art has an almost limitless variety of style and form, ranging from flat surfaces to three-dimensional objects. Contemporary Mosaics showcases complex, provocative, and in some cases highly lyrical artwork from a range of national artists.The exhibition will promote mosaic art to the wider public and aims to foster an understanding and appreciation of this unique art form.

Step up to the Plate: Helping Food n’ Friends Can Be A Piece of Cake

 Friday, May 7th, 7:30 – 9pm.  Attleboro Arts Museum.

On May 7th, you’ll have an opportunity to “Step up to the Plate” and discover that supporting Food n’ Friends food pantry “Can Be a Piece of Cake.”

  • From 7:30-9:00, the museum will offer artful cake decorating demonstrations from local talents! 
  • Sample a range of wonderful cakes and coffees
  • Participate in a creative silent auction
  • Each attendee will take home a handmade plate created by Massachusetts College of Art and Design and local high school students. 

The proceeds of “Step up to the Plate” will benefit the Food n’ Friends kitchen and breakfast programs – serving the greater Attleboro area.

All ages welcome.

Tickets: $20 each, made payable to Food n’ Friends.  Space is limited.

High Art 2010: Mural Arts/Inspirational Figures

The Museum’s annual High Art Exhibition celebrates the work of high school students in southeastern Massachusetts.  High Art is a juried exhibition showcasing emerging talent and extraordinary points-of-view.  Curated by Abby Rovaldi.
